Assertiveness Skills

This highly interactive one day workshop can offer you practical ideas and techniques in the areas of assertiveness, active listening, anger management and stress management – all crucial aspects of successful conflict resolution. It will cover not just the management of conflict, but will also consider it’s prevention.

Conflicts are a part of normal everyday life - however, if you have too many, or you are perhaps not handling them well – then life can certainly become stressful.

Conflicts at work can be caused by people having different points of view about things such as priorities, responsibilities, or standards – or sometimes they can be caused by people trying to achieve what they want at the expense of others.

At work, people can spend a lot of time having to deal with conflict. But conflict doesn't have to be a problem. There can be positive and negative aspects to conflict within a workgroup, depending upon how people manage it.

Content can include …..

  • Recognise how your past experience may be currently limiting your ability to respond to conflict in constructive ways
  • The value of conflict in the decision making processes of a group
  • Assertive techniques for responding to criticism and difficult behaviour
  • Learn how to engage others in collaborative problem solving, seeking to resolve contentious issues in a way more likely to lead to win-win outcomes
  • Building rapport and trust with others – giving and receiving feedback in a supportive way
  • Managing your stress and controlling your “fight – flight” reaction to a perceived threat ….. - poor stress management will impair your ability to deal with conflict
